Give a twist to the regular naadan palaharam (snack) and enjoy these golden beauties with hot tea or a “full cup of memories”!
Ripe plantain /ethapazham / nendrapazham- 3
All purpose flour / maida – 1 cup
Rice flour – 3 tbsp
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
Sugar – 3 tsp
Black sesame seeds – 1 tbsp
Cumin seeds- 1/4 tsp
Salt – A pinch
Water – As needed
Oil – As needed deep frying
Ghee/clarified butter – As needed
Method: In a bowl, mix the maida, rice flour, turmeric powder, sugar, sesame seeds, cumin seeds, and salt adding little water to make a thick batter consistency. Keep this aside. Peel the ripe plantains and slice them into 1 inch thick round pieces and cut them into halves. Melt ghee in a nonstick pan. Add the plantain pieces and fry them until golden brown on both sides. Drain them onto a paper towel. Add more ghee or oil to the pan. Dip each fried plantain piece into the prepared batter and gently drop them into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown. Transfer the fried plantains to a paper towel. Serve with hot tea or coffee as an evening snack.
