Canadian Beaver Tails

Deliciously addictive float fried Canadian style pastries served piping hot with your choice of delectable toppings!


Whole wheat flour – 2 cups
Instant yeast – 2 tsp
Sugar – 1/2 cup
Eggs- 2
Warm water – 1/2 cup
Warm milk – 1/2 cup
Unsalted butter – 6 tbsp, melted
Salt – A pinch
Oil – As needed for deep-frying
Strawberries- As needed, chopped into small pieces
Banana – 1, chopped into small pieces
M&Ms- A handful
Lemon candies – As needed
Nutella – As needed

Method: In the bowl, add the yeast, sugar, and warm water. Stir well and allow to sit until frothy. Into the same bowl, add eggs, sugar, warm milk, melted butter, and salt. Whisk until well combined. In a large bowl, add the flour and the wet ingredients and mix well to form a smooth but slightly sticky dough. Cover with plastic wrap and keep it aside for 2 hours. Divide the dough into 10-12 balls. Using your hands, roll out the balls into long oval-like shapes about 1/4 inch thick that resemble a beaver’s tail (basically a long oval shape). Heat oil in a large pan. Gently place the flattened dough into the hot oil and cook for 30 to 45 seconds on each side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Generously spread Nutella over the beaver tails. Decorate with your favorite toppings and enjoy!
