Beetroot Chapati / Beetroot Roti / Indian Style Beetroot Flatbread

A delicious & healthy recipe with a new dimension to the sweet beetroot which is blended to a fine paste and mixed with dough to make the rotis. . This is a  kid friendly recipe that has a twist to the regular roti.  It tastes awesome and is packed full of nutrition.

 

Ingredients:
Beetroot – 1 medium sized
Whole wheat flour – 2 cups
Cumin pwd – ½ tsp
Red chilly pwd – ½ tsp
Ghee / clarified butter – 2 tsp
Butter – to fry
Salt –  To taste
Water- As needed

Method: Wash and peel off the skin of beetroot. Grate it finely and transfer it to a bowl. Add whole wheat powder, cumin powder, red chilly pwd, salt, and 1 tsp of ghee and mix all the ingredients Using your hands, knead the mixture to a soft dough sprinkling water little by little. Divide the dough into small lemon-sized balls. Dust the ball with flour and roll it to rotis or flatbreads using a rolling pin. Dust more wheat flour if the dough is sticking to the rolling pin. Heat a griddle/tawa. Cook the rotis one by one on both sides by drizzling butter to the sides and flipping both sides. Place a kitchen towel in a serving bowl and place the cooked chapatis and cover with a lid. Serve hot with your favorite curry.
