These flaky savory pies are a splendid treat to your taste buds!
Puff Pastry Sheet- 2
Beef – 1/4 kg, cut into small cubes
Onion – 1, finely chopped
Ginger-1” finely minced
Garlic-3 pods, finely minced
Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
Meat masala powder- 2 tsp
Red chili powder – 1 tsp
Salt – To taste
Method: Clean, wash, and drain the beef pieces. Marinate the beef with ginger, garlic, turmeric powder, chili powder, and salt. Leave it aside for 10-15 mins. Thaw the pastry sheets at room temperature for around 30 mins. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Whisk the egg in a small bowl and keep it aside. Pressure cook the marinated meat with enough water for 4-5 whistles or until the meat is cooked. Remove from flame and allow the pressure to subside. Open the lid and drain the meat. Mince the cooked meat in a mixer for 1 pulse to form a coarse mixture. Heat oil in a pan. Add the chopped onions and sauté until golden and translucent. Add the meat masala and fry for 1-2 mins until the raw smell goes away. Add the minced meat and mix well until the mixture is brown and dry. Taste and adjust the seasonings.
Roll out the puff pastry sheet and cut into 6 equal pieces in a square shape. Take 1 tbsp of cooked masala and keep on the middle of each pastry slice. Fold the sheet to the center from all the 4 sides, and dab the edges with egg wash & lightly brush the top of the pastry for some glossy finish. Arrange the pastries on a greased baking tray lined with parchment paper, and bake for 15-20 minutes until the top turns golden brown. Remove from baking dish and let it cool on wire rack.
